Does Starbucks burn their coffee?!

Question:

Does Starbucks burn their coffee?

Every time I get coffee at Starbucks, it tastes scorched. Why is burnt coffee so popular? Are you supposed to drink it with cream and sugar to hide the burnt flavor?

Answers:
Actually, a big part of the reason is that Starbucks over-roast the coffee beans. Hence people around where I live call the "Charbucks", because the coffee tastes charred. Over roasting the beans is usually done on purpose to mask the cheapness and lower quality of the beans. Also, many people think it must be stronger if the coffee tastes "dark."

And yes they do serve burnt coffee that's been left on a heating element for over 30 minutes. You know, the coffee that's in the urn on the 'warming' pad. All you taste is the harsh bitterness left because all the rich coffee oils have been evaporated away (which is what gives fresh coffee it's richer flavor).

The juggernaut has destroyed good coffee in almost every market where it used to exist. Even worse, they’ve spawned a generation of coffee drinkers who think that expensive and overroasted IS good coffee, in the same way that NASCAR has spawned a generation of fans who think that clumsily banging around is good racing.

Used to work in a coffee shop.

No, with me, it is not. I don't know try McDonald's coffee, it taste so much better than Starbucks.

You can really burn coffee. I never knew that.

Starbucks is crap. If you want truly good coffee, go to Caribou Coffee. You'll thank me when you do...

I totally agree. That is the worst coffee I have ever tasted, but I have found out from others that many people like that toooo strong stuff, yuk it is horrible. I have found that Burger King and McDonalds has the best coffee.

I agree with you 100%. With the price that you pay 4 of 5 times you get the scorched coffee. Every now and then, you'll get a fresh cup that has recently been made, but they should throw out any coffee that's been on the burner too long.

I have found Dunkin Donuts coffee is good, but watered down. The best is convienence stores like 7-11 have great coffee with all the fixings.

God endorses Peets.

I love starbucks

I have never realized that, that is probably because I only get frappucinos

Starbucks coffee is not 'burnt', the reason for this taste is they use dark roast strong coffee beans freshley ground, so the flavor may come off to some as 'burnt' or 'charred'.
