Question:

Why is the sea Blue, When water is clear ? ? ?

Answers:
I thought it was the reflection of the sky since the ocean seems to look gray on cloudy days. However these other answers are much better, and I just learned a lot.

The sea is not blue the sea is actually clear. Its the reflection of the sky and the colorful coral and living creatures that give the sea is color. If you would like to find out more about it do a search on yahoo since you are already here.

Sunlight is made up of all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Some of the sunlight is reflected off the surface of the water, reflecting the color of the sky. Some of the sunlight penetrates the water and is scattered by ripples and particles in the water (this tinges the appearance of the ocean with the color of the particles). In deep water, much of the sunlight is scattered by the oxygen in the water, and this scatters more of the blue light.

The Red Sea often looks red because of red algae that live in this sea. The Black Sea looks almost black because it has a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide (which often appears black)

It's the coral in the sea that gives it that color. You need to watch National Geographic!!!

The seas color has alot to do with sky and algae that grows in that area, Example New york ocean water is brown, And Florida's waters are either green or blue.
