Can I use a regular pie crust recipe for hamantaschen?!

Question: Can I use a regular pie crust recipe for hamantaschen?
Or does it have to be a cookie dough or a butter type dough? Thanks.

Answers:

Well there are some ingredients in it that are not present in regular pie crust...like egg and sugar.

4 cups flour
4 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
A pinch of salt
1 cup of oil
3 tablespoons of warm water
Zest of 2 lemons
1 cup sugar

But if you are in a crunch and can't/don't want to make the crust, I would maybe add a little more sugar to the filling since the crust won't be as sweet but it shouldn't ruin the final dish.

Looked in search and saw the most lovely pies with fab pastry. I think the recipe provided by rosy sounds acceptable. Happy baking. Oh the answer is yes I think you can use it.

I wouldn't use regular pie dough, even if you add extra sugar. The texture just won't be right. Hamantaschen should be tender, not flaky.
