What are some good tofu recipes?!

Question:

What are some good tofu recipes?

and also any advice on how to cook it. Sometimes I am able to pan sear it and it comes out SOOo good and at other times I mess up pretty badly.
I used extra firm but does that make a difference?

Answers:
BBQ Tofu

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1 pound firm tofu, frozen & thawed
favorite vegan BBQ sauce
balsamic vinegar
vegetable oil

Directions:

Slice tofu into 1/4 inch strips. Place strips between towels and squeeze out the water.

Place strips in a large bowl and sprinkle balsamic vinegar over tofu until the vinegar is absorbed.

Coat tofu entirely with BBQ sauce.

Using a cookie sheet, spread a light coating of vegetable oil over the sheet to prevent sticking.

Place tofu on cookie sheet and bake at 325 for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until tofu begins to dry, but not burn.

Put a light brushing of BBQ sauce on tofu and heat further until the BBQ sauce is hot.

Remove and serve as a main dish or serve on sandwiches.

Balsamic vinegar adds some zing and takes away to "Tofu-ey" taste.

Hi Tia,

The best tofu recipe I have is really simple and super tasty! depending on what shape you cut up the tofu (hard) you can use it for all different things. My fav is in 1cm slabs and then use it as a veg pattie in burgers.

Scramble one egg with 1/4 tspn garlic and some salt and pepper. Heat pan so it is really hot and then put a couple of tspns of oil in the pan. Dip tofu pieces into the egg mix so it is well coated and fry it until crisp on all sides. Eat with sweet chilli or satay sauce, use as burger patty, put into stir frys etc.

Hope this helps...it's super yum you gotta try it! :)

personally, I like tofu after stir-frying in a wok, because the tofu absorbs all of the flavors and the seasonings from the other things you use.

SPICY FRIED TOFU

1 1/2 lbs. firm tofu
1 tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp. turmeric

Cayenne pepper to taste
3-4 lg. cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp. tamari soy sauce

Drain tofu and cut into 1/2" cubes. Heat oil in skillet (preferably non-stick) and saute tofu over high heat for 5 minutes. Lower heat and add turmeric, stirring until uniformly distributed. Add basil, thyme, cumin, curry powder, coriander and cayenne and stir. Add garlic, soy sauce and yeast. Saute until golden brown. Add Parmesan cheese and saute 5 more minutes. (Serve in tacos, pita bread, sandwiches or just as is.)

1/2 c. Swiss cheese, shredded
1 tbsp. sesame seeds, toasted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place tofu in blender; process until smooth. In large saucepan, cook onion and garlic in hot oil until tender. Add tomatoes and oregano. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer about 3 minutes. Stir in tofu, rice, spinach, 1/4 cup of cheese, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Cook in greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Top with remaining cheese and sesame seeds.

TOFU - VEGETABLE CASSEROLE

2 c. fresh broccoli, flowerets or chopped broccoli
2 med. onions, diced
16 lg. fresh mushrooms, sliced thin
3 med. tomatoes, diced
16 oz. plain low-fat yogurt
2 pkg. firm tofu, drained overnight, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
4 tbsp. sesame seeds
1 pkg. dry Lipton's onion-mushroom soup mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine first four ingredients and mix lightly. Oil a casserole. Combine yogurt and soup mix in a bowl. Place vegetable layer in bottom of casserole. Top with a layer of tofu. Top with a layer of yogurt mixture then sesame seeds. Repeat layers. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees

you have to wrap it in a towel or paper towel with weight on it for a few mins first to get the water out first...
