New Drinker/Help????!

Question:

New Drinker/Help????

I'm 23 & just started drinking-Is there such thing as a guide to find out what "ingredients" are in every bar drink? Or do I have to buy drinks to find out?

Answers:
I have been a professional bartender for eight years now, and currently bartend at one of the top nightclubs in the midwest, and I would have to say that the #1 book I have ever encountered in my career would be "The Bartender Blackbook" by Stephen Kittenridge Cunningham.
I reccomend it for many reasons, the first being that, in my opinion, if the recipie isnt in this book, then more than likely the drink you are looking for is something that someone has decided to just make up in thier own free time.
The Bartenders Blackbood sets itself aside from most recipie books, as it has every single recipie listed in alphabetical order by the NAME of the cocktail (as most books have them broke down by the type of liqour or type of cocktail which sometimes can be confusing), but also has a quick reference guide for all the recipes in the back of the book for drinks that contain a certain type of liquor.
It also contains a bottled wine guide, a reference for shooters, shots, Martinis, warm or coffee drinks, and non-alcoholic drinks for easy recipie look-up as well.
I highly reccomend this piece of literature over any other book or webite found today.
If it makes a difference...I, as a profesional bartender, have owned the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, AND 7th edition of this book, and the 8th edition is on the market today.

Myself...I do this for a living.

There should be about a zillion books out there with hundreds of drink recipes. Try Barnes & Noble, or even online somewhere. I'm a bartender, and I think that the ones that have 20 million ingredients just don't taste as good as your plain ole' Bacardi Lemon and Diet Pepsi. . but, that's just me.

www.drinksmixer.com ...I love this site!

Try Mr Boston's... although there are countless others.

Just google.com .....alcholic drinks, or drink receipes, etc..... the internet is FULL of how to make every drink in the world and you'll usually find full listings on every site you go to.

bartending for dummies has alot of recipes and you can always ask a bartender for ideas. let them know what type you like. sweet, fruity, strong, weak and so on.

look fer the 1 called ''heaven's hill.''

Not to sound like a broken record, but the other bartender on here hit it dead on. "The Bartender's Black Book" is the only guide you need. I own the 7th edition and it rocks. I however, have only been doing this for a living for two years now. Greatest job in the world, well at least it has plenty of perks.

ask the bartender

STOP THIS DRINKING OF YOURS...
It costs money that you could have used to buy your self things that you need rather than drink away, and besides, drinking just gives you headaches afterward.

go to a bookstore. they have like 50 different bar books with all the recipes in them. try a few at home, then order what you like at the bar.

Barnes & Noble. The best one that I have read is The Bartenders Bible. It's green. It also tells you what you need to set up your own bar at home and the names of glasses and utensils. The Bartender's Guide is okay if you can't find the other.
