Vegetarian Protein?!

Question:

Vegetarian Protein?

I am a 15 year old girl, about 5'5. About how much protein should I intake a day? I dance about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours every weekday. What are good ideas of getting protein (like stuff I can take in the car with me)...and how many grams a day?

For those people who would like to know...I am a vegetarian because I love animals, and that's my decision. :-)

PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas

PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice

VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini

PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon

PROTEIN IN NUTS AND SEEDS: Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts (black)

Beans are a great source of protein, but you'll be tooting your own horn while you dance if you eat too many.

I have a Zone Perfect Bar every morning for breakfast. I'm not sure how many grams of protein it has but they're very good and balanced (it's soy protein). Good luck!!

raw nuts, raw seeds, avocado.

You know what has protien? I BIG FAT BLOODY STEAK. That's where I get my protien and you should too. Why are you buying into this vegetarian nonesense? Humans eat MEAT! It's NATURAL!!!

I've heard that 30-35 grams of protein a day is the standard recommendation...and a portion something like the size of your fist. But if you're highly active, you might need more than that.
Eggs are a great source of digestible protein, but if you would like to have a completely vegan source, go for soy. Soy is so good for you in so many ways and getting the majority of your protein from vegetable sources rather than animal is one of the best things you can do for your health. Tofu is a very versatile food that you can cook a thousand different ways....as far as travel friendly soy, try soy yogurt cups, frying up tempeh (fermented soybean cakes that taste meaty and mushroom-y) and making sandwiches with it, soy energy bars, or making sandwiches out of the variety of soy "meats" and "cheeses." Try a health or natural foods store rather than a regular supermarket for these sorts of items. You're bound to find a better selection and probably higher quality products as well as knowledgeable people who can assist you in making choices.
And besides soy, there's always other bean and nut products. If you get tired of peanut butter (go for natural, not the hydrogenated stuff!), there are a host of other nut butters that you can try like sunflower, cashew, almond and even soynut butter. Play around and experiment!
