What can I bring to a social gathering - dinner party?!

Question:

What can I bring to a social gathering - dinner party?

My manager invited me and a couple of co-workers to his place to celebrate a successful project. I wanted to bring something special, maybe a wine or something, but I am totally clueless what kind of wine to bring. Do you have any suggestions? I want something a little bit expensive, but not too much.

What kind of wine (brand name, etc)?
Where to get it?
How much it is?

Thanks in advance!

Ok. I want something that's a little bit expensive. Probably around $100 to $200? 20 bucks just won't cut it. =)

If you really want to impress your manager, you need to do your homework first.

See what they like. For a dinner/celebration purposes, wine and champagne are much classier than beer and whiskey. Another good idea for celebration is something like Cognac/after dinner drink. Coordinate with your co-workers so you won't outshine them and make them look cheap. Also coordinate so you guys will not bring the same type of liquor. For example, one of you can bring red, one bring white, and another after dinner drink.

For wine, you want something special. You can get a fine red wine from either California or Bordeaux for the price range you listed. My favorite Californian include Caymus Special Selection ($150, the bottle featured at Bewitched with Nicole Kidman), Joseph Insignia ($120, the premier French style wine from Napa and one of the best in the world), Opus One ($125, better known for its name than its quality but still excellent), Mondavi Cab Reserve ($100), or Silver Oak Napa ($100). Or you can do some cult California wine like Revana Cab ($110), Barbour Cab ($100), La Sirena Cab ($125), Pride Reserve Cab ($125), which are very hard to come by but will impress those who knows wine. As for French, go for the first growth - Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Mouton Rotheschild, or Haut Brion, all of which starts at $130 at lesser year but can go up to $600 or more. These are special wine great for celebration of rare and special occasion.

As for Champagne, go for French. The usual - Dom Perignon ($120), La Grand Dame ($140), Grand Sercle ($150), or Cristal ($200) are all great stuff. Californians make some good champagne but I'd go for the French for the impressive image.

As for appertif, you can go for dessert wine or Cognac. Dessert wine are fun, and you can spend an arm and leg for it. You can get Californian (Far Niente Dolce $70/half bottle), French (Chateau Riusec $60 or Chateau D'Qyem $120/half bottle), German (Gunderlock nackerheim $60), Portugal (Cockburn Vintage $90) or Australian (Tokaji $25). As for Cognac, try any XO's Camus ($110), Hennasey ($100). You can go for Louis XIII, but that's really outrageous.

As for where to find, you can try any of the high end liquor stores around town. A lot of time, these fine liquors are under keys and chains and occasionally sitting in the manager's office. You'll have to ask. The other place to look for, if you have time, are internet. Try some of my favorite sites - Winestreet.com, Dukeof Bourbon.com, Groezingers.com, Specsonline.com. Shop around and look for good deal of great stuff.

Have fun and make this a memorable event, whether just because you like your coworker or if you want to make it to help your future career. Don't go cheap.

I like Italian wines and two of my favorites are from Gabbiano. Try Gabbiano Pinot Grigio or Chianti. I get mine from my supermarket or maybe you could try a liquor store. Both of these wines are priced under $15 in my area. For something really expensive you need to consult a sommelier or someone at your local wine shop.

Ask a person in a liquor store near you. They are very helpful and when I've done that, it has been a good success. I personally really like Wild Vines and it is very reasonable.

Take Kendall-Jackson Merlot. It is a very popular brand and is under $20.00 a bottle. The Chardonnay is nice too.

Since it was a successful project go with either a sparling wine or a Champagne, Would be more appropriate like either Korbel Brut around 12.99 Bottle or Moet and Chandon Brut for about 24.99 a bottle, You'll get about 6-7 glasses out of a bottle. You can get these items in any half way decent Liquor Stores. Then go with Dom Perigon which is about $139 dollars a bottle.

dude! Crown Royal, Wild Turkey, Their r other classier drinks out there without spending $100.00 that people will enjoy just fine!!

u should buy cristal champagne u can get some for $399 to $700 i love it or u get absolute vodka and some beluga caviar that will impress evey1 hope that helps

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Should be available at any decent liquor or beer and wine shop. I have even seen it at Meijers a time or two. Expect to pay $20-22 a bottle, bring 1 bottle for every 4 people if you want to feed the group.
