Baking cookies?!

Question:

Baking cookies?

i want to bake some cookies for my friend who is vegan and doesn't eat margarine or butter (even the vegan kind) i don't think that substituting oil for butter will work, but what about something like peanut butter or almond paste? thanks for the input!

Answers:
jj -- maby I am missing some thing here but I don't think so. I am looking at the ingredients of Crisco all - Vegetable Shortening . It is made from soybean oil and cottonseed oil mono and diglycerides
witch is also derived from vegetables.
To me I can't see the difference from that and peanut butter or almond paste.
but if you do see the difference go for the oil cream the sugar and oil before you add the eggs add a couple table spoons of flour more than the recipe calls for and it should work. If you can't use eggs please forgive me for answering this question.
Wishing you luck jim b

I've heard of apple sauce being substituted for oil... maybe butter too?

APPLE SAUCE definately.
my mom always used it and it works great.

peanut butter would be fine it would taste like peanut butter cookies.or almond paste will taste like almond cookies umm,,like me know have it comes out.

substitute the butter or margarine for shortening. that's your best bet. shortening is not made from animal fat.
