Was this wrong to do?!

Question:

Was this wrong to do?

Yesterday I went grocery shopping. After I got my grub I was walking to my car with my goods. I noticed that someone had left a full bag of groceries in the parking lot. It appears they accidently left it there as they loaded their other grocery bags into their trunk. I took it and ate it. Should I return to the store and buy the same goods I found and turn them into the grocery store lost and found or just chaulk it up to a free meal?

Answers:
If you brought it back to the store, they would have just re-sold the stuff. I've left stuff in the parking lot myself. Especially when the clerk puts stuff on the bottom of the cart. It happens. You didnt steal it. It sort of came to you.

One man gathers what another man spills.

i think you should have taken it back into the store. i mean, the person that left the bag probably didn't realize it until they went home. the store might just replace their groceries, but probably not. i think it's more a karma thing...better to turn it in - whatever they lost - they might have really needed it. ya know?

You SHOULD have took the bag inside to customer service, but you ate it so what's done is done.

It was wrong, you should have taken it into the store when you found it and turned it in. The person may or may not have come back for it, but that's really not the point. Just think how you would feel if the same thing happened to you, wouldnt it make you feel good if you went back to the store and found that somebody had found your groceries and turned them in? The fact that you took them only reinforces that fact that you cant trust anybody these days and hardly anybody is willing to do the right thing anymore, pretty sad.

Yeah, you probably should buy the same stuff again. I mean, you don't honestly have to, but if the person ever did come back for it (it depends on what was in there, was it odd stuff that looked like it was for a recipe or just normal food?) they'd be pretty happy someone returned it. I don't know. I've never seen anyone go back to a grocery store for food, OR a grocery store lost and found...

Maybe I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just maybe take it back in next time =)

Had you taken the bag back into store, they most likely wold have told you to take it home. Especially if there were parishibles. They can't resell anything in that bag anyway. Then your conscience would have been clear.

Wow seems like your lucky day caused you some discomfort! You know that was wrong that's why you are asking this question! Fix it!

Had you been a parent on your last just trying to feed your kids I would so say you just got a blessing but seeing as you didn't need it you should have at least attempted to return it. You probably would have ended up with it but still, its the principal of it all.

I would ask the store if someone came looking for those groceries and replace them. Tell someone at customer service that someone may be after them. That bag of food could keep someone from starving. If you are guilty enough about it to ask, then yes you should replace them.
