Dessert ideas??!

Question:

Dessert ideas??

My best friend's son is having a birthday party..... And I'm sort of in-charge of the food....He's seven, so I was wondering what dessert I could make. I'm serving spaghetti and chicken, I know, its classic(we-ll, it was upon the request of the birthday boy). I wanted to make a chocolate mousse but I don't have any pasteurized eggs........ So, should I push through with the chocolate mousse or do you have any other dessert ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hard to say since I don't know what you do have....

Want to try "Fried Ice Cream"?

I watched it in a cooking show in the Philippines.

Why not do layered jelly? Not sure if you call it jelly or jello - but do different layers of flavours, mix some packets with milk. In between the layers, sprinkle chocolate flakes.... serve it with custard....

At seven, he might still like a special themed birthday cake.
Many of the larger grocery chains have books where you can select a cake (Harry Potter, super heroes, etc)
Or perhaps an ice cream cake? Prices are very reasonable.

I don't think chocolate mousse would be a hit with that age group.

Chocolate mousse doesn't sound like a birthday dessert for a seven year old boy to me. How about a red velvet cake with a super hero motif on the icing?

Couldnt you just go buy some eggs

Kids love cake! Make a cake. Or ice-cream.
Anything as long as it is yummy and brightly-coloured!

I dont have any children of my own, unless you want to count my 3 cats LOL but my friend has little children about your friends sons age and I brought this over for a birthday party and it was a great hit. the kids loved it!! I called it a dirt cake. I just mixed up a few boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix with some cool whip and spread it out in a 9 by 13 pan. On top of that i crushed up some oreos and spread that on top to look like dirt. than i added some scattered gummi worms on top and some small silk flowers. i served it with a plastic beach shovel with chocolate ice cream on the side

Why not just have the cake and ice cream as the dessert. If you serve dessert and then the cake and ice cream, a lot of food is going to go to waste. They are only 7. I'd just make a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and have some kind of ice cream with chocolate in it. What I did for my daughter's birthday (I got the idea from Ina Garten) is make individual birthday cakes (6 inches) and let each child decorate their own cake. This was the highlight of the party. I bought several cans of frosting and decorations like gummy bears, fruit by the foot, etc. and let them have fun. Each child was able to take their cake home, but knowing boys, they would end up eating it. Have fun!
