Does the consumption of Apple Core Seeds cause cancer?!

Question:

Does the consumption of Apple Core Seeds cause cancer?

This is possibly an old wive's tale, but I remember one of my high school Food Tech teachers saying that if you eat the seeds from an apple, you will get cancer... can someone please confirm if this is either true/false?

Answers:
I've never heard of apple seeds causing cancer, but I do remember hearing stories about how they were responsible for appendicitis as a kid, and even that they contain cyanide. It turns out that the seeds of apples, peaches, apricots and cherries are made up of amygdalin which does have a v. tiny dose of cyanide in them, but the amount of seeds you'd have to consume to cause any fatal damage is extremely unlikely. Any potential harm that can be caused by apple seeds can be found in the following source websites. Wish I could be of more help to you.

Dont know but apparently when they make contact with stomach acids they give off the same gas the Nazis used to kill the people in the concentration camps.

I think you may have heard a modified version of a classic "urban legend" which is actually true: they are poisonous in large quantities. (Not that anyone would eat enough apple seeds to kill themselves, but they potentially have enough toxins to kill you if consumed in large doses.) So eat your apples carefully! haha

no

In my social studies text book, poison gas is made from apple seeds.ONLY apple seeds. I think you can, but don't go crazy with it. I am not sure, but I read it in a chapter.

it is poisonous only if consumed in large quantities, but otherwise it's harmless...

and it is Not cancerous... the word you want is Poisonous :)
