Why are vegetable and Fruits so Expensive in the UK?!

Question:

Why are vegetable and Fruits so Expensive in the UK?

Are there cheaper places I can buy Fruits and Veg? I tried our local fruit market but noticed the produce has a very short shelf life. Would this be my only alternative?

Yeah, good lord everything does cost quite a bit! I didn't think of that mama peach.. thanks. Maybe it's because it's more organic.. Just a shame cause I buy too much, and can't eat it quick enough. Everything is too deliscious.

Fruits and Veggies all have their place. Just in case you didn't know the U.K is one of the major importers. Because they don't have enough farmland. Farmland increases the produce. And since the U.K doesn't have much of that the produce demand is more and more. SO my suggestion is that you keep going to your local markets. There is also a chain of markets called "Aime" Which is the cheapest but last a little longer then your normal market produce lasts.

Hope it helps.

Next question....why is everything in the U.K so expensive? I'm getting pretty sick of getting ripped off.

Markets are generally the cheapest place to get your F&V and shelf life thing isn't necessarily a bad thing, it means that they have not been sprayed or waxed or anything else equally as nasty.

Look at your own geography. It's a small island, not exactly enough to produce agriculture for it's own people, so most of it has to be shipped to the isles. So you also pay transportation fees and the cost of demand/supply.

If you want a slightly cheaper alternative, buy frozen.

I wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense considering your geographic location. Glad I live in California. When we drive out through wine country I always stop and pick stuff out of the orchards on the side of the road lol. When I lived in Texas we could go to the markets by the border and fill up the car trunk with oranges, grapefruits, plantaines, pineapple, etc for a few dollars. And we'd get liter bottles of pure vanilla extract for two dollars each.
