Well, we here on Food and Drink know quite a bit about radio journalism, let me tell you.

My advice............go to college, get a broadcasting or journalism degree.

If you're that dumb, you'll never make it in any career.

Learn how to write a news story.

The best journalists use the "Five W's" It was developed by The Associate Press, and NBC.

They are: Who, What, Where, When, Why.

See if you can incorporate all five of the W's into the first sentence of the story.

The reason for that is that style gives the listener all the pertinent facts up front, in a short concise easy to understand format.

Here's an example (I'm making this up)

"Four people (who) were killed (what) today (when) after a massive accident on I-95 (where) when a tanker truck rolled off the overpass (why)."

(they usually put the Who first because people are most interested in other people.)

You can just imagine hearing that kind of opening sentence on the radio. It has all the elements and it presents them BANG right up front in a startling way so that the listener wants to hear more (which is what your station's owner wants - to build audience)

After that, the writer will go into details, with a follow up sentence, again using the five W's, beginning with who, to explain who the people were, etc.

Most of this information you can get from books at the library.
Of course a degree in Journalism is good but only to land your first job.

A lot of schools don't teach this kind of skill. Some do, you will have to find them yourself.

One way to find out what school to check out would be to write a letter, not an email, to a radio journalist who you admire, in a major market, asking for his/her advice and could you meet with that person for an 'informational interview' to learn more about the profession.

Most of them will be complimented and, if you include your phone number or email address, will respond to you. I always did.

What does this have to do with food?

go to school....told you that already....

What does this have to do with food and drink?
