What in the heck is "Cow Ghee"?!
What in the heck is "Cow Ghee"?
I found it at Woodman's grocery store, in Wisconsin. It's from India, it comes in a glass jar, it looks like yellow, runny pus....I don't think I want to eat any, thanks...just wondering what in might taste like, and what/how it's used in cooking!
Answers:
It is clarified butter. ghee may be made from the cream form milk of other animals such as buffalo. This makes it cow ghee vs buffalo ghee.

Try it - you will love cooking with it. Many French cooks in haute cuisine cook with clarified butter or ghee.
Also it is valued for its high smoking point and is therefore good for cooking at high temperatures.

no, lol, it's not cow pus or anything. just like cow milk, only cow butter.
Yes...it's butter. Don't be taken aback by the poor English on the container. Obviously "cow" doesn't make it sound very appetizing. It's like saying, wanna eat cow stew tonight?
minyak sapi (oil)
Ghee is clarified butter ,butter gently boiled till all moisture evaporates ,then residual milk solids are removed, the clear liquid is called ghee.In India a lot of milk & ghee is got from buffalo ,hence the distinction between cow & buffalo milk, butter & ghee.Cow products contain a pigment which mkes it appear yellow. In India apart from cooking ghee has medicinal as well as use in Hindu religious rituals ,in the later only cow ghee is used.I think this provides all the relevant information needed & it most certainly isn;t bottled pus.
It is clarified butter.
It's just cleared butter made from cow milk.
'Cleared' means that all the sediments are removed, leaving only the liquid butter fat.
Ghee is clarified butter. it is prepared by heating butter and then straining off all of the melted butter (oil) from the water & milk solids that are left.
reasons.
1. as a purer product it has a much longer shelf life for storage.
2. it will have a much higher heating point as a pure oil than straight butter, if you heat butter under a strong flame it will bubble & burn. this is the solids & water that you previously strained away.
it has a light buttery taste but as the foods that you genrally use ghee with are highly spiced, you probably will not taste it.
