Is peanut butter a healthy diet food?!

Question:

Is peanut butter a healthy diet food?

I've been dieting and exercising lately and I had peanut butter on crackers, now i feel guilty. I hear that peanut butter is a healthy food but how can this be when there is so much fat in it?

Answers:
No, actualyy people use peanut butter to help gain weight and muscle. I would avoid any nuts, pastas, and breads.

IT IS FULL OF PROTIEN, IT IS HIGH IN FATS, BUT THE ORGANIC OR FRESH GROUND ARE TO DIE FOR

Peanut butter is certainly a good choice and if you go with organic or some type of sugar free, even better. It is full of protein and it is filling. Plus a little goes a long way.
There are worse choices by far. And the fat in peanut butter is generally considered to be a healthy fat. Stop stressing.

lots of protien but very high in calories

if youre not allergic to it, i'm sure its fine

Peanut butter can be both - healthy and unhealthy. Depending on brand and quantity.
I suggest sticking to the natural stuff and reading the ingredients list. I tend to go for the low fat version of Skippy. However, there are tons of natural peanut butters (and other nut butters - pistachio, almond, etc) out there - many that do not contain any added ingredients other than the nuts themselves. Because of protien content and other nutritional values - these would be the best nut butters to go for. Though watch out for some of the cheaper brands of nut butters - they tend to start their nut butter with shortening (or fat) and basically just use the nuts for flavoring. These nut butters are not good for you. Always watch your transfat / fat numbers, cholesterol, carbohydrates, and all of the things you would look for in any other food. Trader Joes markets offers a great selection of natural nut butters - and great organic low sugar jelly's! A better alternative than peanut butter and crackers is a small handful (about 6) of almonds - high in protein and Vitamin E - also a great appetite suppresant! Good luck!

Only the natural peanut butter is good. The regular stuff has trans fat in it (partially hydrogenated oil). When you look at the natural stuff in the jar, it looks nasty because it has a layer of oil on top. But you just have to mix it up before you use it. Peanut butter does have a lot of fat in it, but most of it is good fat (poly and mono unsaturated fats). The good fats help you burn off the bad fats.
When you read the labels, don't just go by the total fat, you have to be sure to look at the breakdown. It should list saturated, trans, mono and poly fat amounts under "total fat". If it doesnt, it will definitely have total fat and saturated fat. To figure out how much of the good fat it has, just subtract the saturated fat from the total fat.
