Can you eat eggplant raw? If not, why?!

Question:

Can you eat eggplant raw? If not, why?

I read in my cookbook not to eat raw eggplant... I just didn't know if it was because it was dangerous or if it didn't taste good that way.

Answers:
Yum. I really like (raw) eggplant, tomato, dark lettuce and veganaise (mayo) sandwiches on toasted bread.
:) Sometimes I add banana peppers.

After you cut off a good slice, cut off the skin and some of the eggplant near the skin and it will taste good.

I once had a really bitter one and was informed it was bitter because I got the wrong kind. When choosing an eggplant, get the ones that have a really bulbous body and a shorter thin area near the stem. The longer thinner ones are super bitter and have tons of seeds.

But be careful because eggplant goes bad quickly. I only buy one when I am in the mood to eat a lot of eggplant sandwiches.
:)

very bitter when eaten raw, gross

yeah with some sugar on it, some people also include cinnimin as well

It's a member of the nightshade family. Poisonous when uncooked.

Chefgrill is incorrect. Potatoes, Tomatoes, and Bell Peppers are also in the nghtshade family, yet none of us are dead from eating *them*, are we? It's the LEAVES that are poisonous.

Eggplants are NOT poisonous. While there is a minimal amount of a toxin in them, it not enough to do harm and had NEVER been linked to a death.

Basically, eggplants are gross and fiberous if not cooked. They just aren't platable.

it would probably taste gross. don't eat if they say it is not good for you forget about it!

it wont kill u raw, but you have to like really bitter tasting things
