Cooking Disaster......chili.... HELP?

Great my crock pot chili looks more like bean soup! How can I thicken it up a bit? Please Help!!!!!

Here are some ideas:

1. If the beans are done and the chili is still too thin, thicken it by making up a mixture of three tablespoons corn flour mixed with two tablespoons water. Drizzle the mixture into the chili until desired consistency is achieved.

2. Another way to thicken chili is by tearing corn tortillas into strips and stirring them into the chili. Let it cook for another hour or so and the tortillas will dissolve and add thickness to the chili.

3. Here is your chili thickener. Take a can of kidney beans put it in the blender and pour it in your chili! I use this method for making soup too!! I've also used fat free refried beans in the blender.

4. You could leave the lid off and let it simmer, it will evaporate liquid and thicken on it's own...unless it's really soupy.

5. Masa Harina is another thickener that works very well in chili. It will add a slightly sweet hint to the chili, but it makes the consistency very nice.

6. You could also add some cooked white rice to it.

You can smash some of the beans against the side of the pot and the starch in the beans will start to thicken your chili. You could also turn your crock pot to high with the lid off for the liquid to evaporate a little. Or you could make a mixture of flour and water or stock and stir that into your chili to thicken it. Just make sure to boil it after the flour/water has been stirred in so it can cook out the raw flour taste and come to its full thickening potential.

You have a few options...you can cook it with the lit off which will reduce the liquid naturally, you could mix up some cornstarch or arrowroot powder with cold water and put it in and it will thicken up but the texture would probably be a little strange for chili.

If you have any potato flakes (dried mashed potato mix) you could add some and that will absorb some of the liquid without changing the flavor too much.

Another option is to melt some butter in a pan and add flour to it and technically cook the flour. This is called a roux (pronounced roo) and you're cooking the flour to get rid of the raw flour taste. You can also use an oil instead of the butter. Then add the roux to your chili and simmer it a little longer and it will thicken.

Finally, you can add more solid ingredients. Finely chopped vegetables will cook faster so you don't have to cook the existing batch for much longer and help thicken it.

Masa flour, arrow root or you can simmer for a long time and evaporate the excess liquid.

This will sound pretty weird, but corn tortilla chips crumbled into your chilli will help thicken it up (because of the corn meal - masa - in the chips). Add a little at a time until you get to the consistency that you are looking for and make sure that your crumble them (don't add whole - you'll just wind up with a soggy mess). The chips will also help flavor your chilli. When done cooking, serve with shredded cheese, sour cream and more corn chips for dipping or just for the crunch of it. Good luck!

All you need to do is add a handful of minute rice. It will thicken it and it adds texture and of course, tastes wonderful. Been doing it all my life. Good Luck, I am sure it will be delicious!

The traditional method of making Chili thicker is Masa Harina added to the Chili.

try using cornstarch and water,it thickens and does not change the color
