Is this canned soup from 2003 still OK to eat?!

Question:

Is this canned soup from 2003 still OK to eat?

It's Cambell's cream of chicken. I've opened it and it smells fine. There's a clear liquid around a "chicken colored" solid. I'm not sure if it's seperated or if that's the way it's supposed to look.

Answers:
Look for an expiration date - if you can't find one, after 4 years, I wouldn't eat it (it is 2007).
Granted products sealed in a can have a very long shelf life and, much less worrysome than bacteria growth and food poisoning is the worry that the product no longer stands up nutritionally.
Since cans are no longer sealed in lead, you do not need to worry about leakage from this contaminate - however, a new contaminate leakage to be aware of is the plastic interior lining of the can. It is made out of the same type of plastic that is causing all of the drama around plastic baby bottles. The FDA hasn't made a decision yet, though it has been determined that some of these harmful chemicals can leech into the product - especially, as the product gets older. Campbell soup is one of the company's that use the plastic lining in their cans. Again, if you haven't already, I wouldn't eat the soup if I were you. Good luck!

Campbell's soups all have an expiration date on either the top or bottom of the can. Look there to see what the date is. Soup lasts a long time but 4 years seems a bit too long to be good. I wouldn't take the risk unless the expiration date hasn't passed.

There should be an expiration date on it. Check around the label where it's glued together or the bottom of the can may have an imprint.

According to the Campbell's Soup website:

"What is the shelf life of my Campbell canned product?
The shelf life of unopened Campbell canned products varies from 1 to 2 years. In order to experience optimal color, flavor, aroma and texture the product should be consumed prior to the end of the month displayed on the product. "

I also found an article on www.survival.com that says 1 year for canned soups. (http://www.survival.com/y2kkarens.htm)....

Just remember the saying, "when in doubt, throw it out."

I'd throw it out if I were you. Stay safe!

Yea its stilll good its just been broken down but still good just cook it and it will look normal.

NNNNNOOOOOO!!!! Please don't eat it. Anything in a can that is four years old could have botulism in it!!!!! Throw it away~!!!!!!!!!
