Is the charcoal grills better than gas?
Can you comment on how much more messy, annoying, or expensive to keep buying coal.
Thanks.
p.s. A recommended charcoal grill (cheap) would be appreciated also.

It depends on what you like. Gas grills are easy as cooking on a stove. Just turn on, heat for a couple minutes and start cooking. Usually have a couple of heat choices with gas, the upper grill portion is good for keeping stuff warm or slow cooking. There is also alot of room on the grill top. Nothing messy.
Charcoal grilling is messy but cheaper than the gas grill to buy. It even comes in a small table top size that can be emptied, folded and carried with you. Food tastes better in my opinion. Both come with covers to use or not, as you prefer. The Weber grills are as cheap as any. Charcoal is not expensive. For that matter neither is the gas.
Weber makes great low costs charcoal grills, and high end gas grills. Charcoal: buying charcoal, lighter fluid, monitoring the charcoal for correct temperature Pros= taste of the food; Gas: less smokey taste to the food, having to buy propane, Pros: more convenient, no charcoal or fluid to buy.
Charcoal is definately a lot more expensive than a gas grill. Charcoal goes for about $7.00 a bag and you probably only get 2 uses out of it. It is messy and if it is windy where you live you will have many problems getting your pit started and continue going.
I have been cooking with a gas grill for 8years now and would not go back. To fill my propane bottle cost about $10.00 and I probably use it at least 30times or more before I have to refill. We have even switched our Little charcoal camping grill to a small gas grill. Good Luck
I like charcoal grills better, just because of the flavor that it gives the food. Gas grills are more expensive to buy initially, but I am not sure how the prices add up in the end. Hope I helped!

The little Webber "dome" grills are perfect...
And I think steaks and hamburgers taste way better with charcoals, rather than gas...
And taking in the propane tank to get refilled is a pain...and costs more...
And it's fun to soak the coals in lighter fluid and singe your eyebrows as the whole thing explodes when you throw the lit match in...
Hope that helps your culinary and pyrotechnic urges...
A bag of charcoal is only 5-10 dollars and they last a fairly long time. The only annoying part is getting the coals lit and warm. Gas grills are much faster to start but it is basically like using a stove. To really grill you should use charcoal. A basic Webber kettle grill should work fine for what you need.
charcoal grilled food tastes better, but is hard to start up a fire, and messy.
