Which is worse, butter or shortening?!

Question:

Which is worse, butter or shortening?

Answers:
Shortening...
at least butter is natural...just do not use too much...
Peace.

Worse for what? taste? I'd say shortening. Cooking? I'd say they work the same. Health? Butter is worse.

I am not sure but Crisco used to make a butter flavored shortening in a stick form. I used it in many things with goos results.

Butter is beter for cooking on top of the stove.

Depends. If the shortening is partially hydrogenated "anything" or high in polyunsaturated fats or saturated fats, then you are better off health wise choosing butter. Monounsaturated fats are ok.

Butter is natural. Shortening is nothing but fat! But non the less if you look at the nutritional labels on both, all of the calories are from fat.
Over a year ago I discovered Smart Balance Butter. They make a light, which is best for spreading, and one especially for cooking. They also make oil and such. But what I like most about Smart Balance is that they use flax seed and it contains Omega 3 in their products.
I put it to you this way, if one is to use something unhealty to cook with, they might as well use the healthiest that they can find. Lastly, anyhting hydrogenated, processed, or anyhting like that is not good for you at all. The best way to compare, is to look at the label. The companies have to list their ingredients by largest quantities first. So like in soda= water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, blah, blah, blah. The water is the most then the corn syrup, and so forth.
Good Luck!
Another plus about Smart Balance, it is affordable.

well butter is definitely more tasty so I guess shortening
