I am a vegetarian, and my 13 yr old nephew is not...?!

Question:

I am a vegetarian, and my 13 yr old nephew is not...?

He is coming for a visit- how do I feed us both, while staying away from overly-processed foods? I am not opposed to him eating meat- but would prefer it not be cooked in my house. Also- he eats really poorly at home- but i do not want food to be an issue while he is here.
Help!

Answers:
Just prepare what you normally prepare and don't mention it. By the same token, if you take him out to eat and he orders a burger, don't mention that either. If he asks about the food you prepare at home, just explain honestly that you've made the choice to not eat meat. I find that if the food is good, most people don't really notice. For example, I have a large, meat-eating family and while I'm not a vegetarian, I really don't eat a lot of meat. For Christmas, we had a lot of people over and I made a huge buffet. There was only one meat dish, one dish with egg/cheese and everything else was actually vegan. People raved about the food and no one seemed to even notice the lack of meat.

Why not take him to dinner one of the nights and maybe let him eat some TV dinners I don't know? You could cook him your food he may like it! If he wants meat maybe you could settle to cook organic meats than. That way they are natural and much healthier. They do have them at nicer grocery stores.

He's in your house, he eats what you give him, and should be thankful. I never complained about the food served to me, I was raised better. Keep in mind, 'your' the adult, you are in charge, so take charge.

Get his a Miky D's every so often.....I don't think there's any meat in their burgers anyway...

Make fun foods like mac and cheese, pastas, lasagna, or pizza with veggies. These foods aren't the greatest when it comes to carbs, but they can all be made from homemade recipes (instead of frozen or canned) and he should like the tastes. Plus, none of those recipes have to contain meat to taste great.

You should eat Meat, and quit being a new age, liberal, idiot.

How long will he be there for? I dont see anything wrong with feeding him what you eat. I imagine you take care of your nutritional needs just fine. Don't even bother calling it vegetarian food. Food is food. If you are vegetarian I assume you consume eggs and dairy. So the post above me gave decent options. Also going out to eat at a nicer restaurant could be an option that allows you both to eat the way you prefer. Just don't make it an issue with him and it shouldnt be. You could also use things such as tvp to throw into pastas and things that he'd normally be used to eating meat with. I assure you he won't even notice..:)
Good luck!

Find out what he eats at home, and prepare that. Also, be aware that there are significant health hazards associated with being a vegetarian; most vegetable proteins are deficient in one or more essential amino acids, and none has any vitamin B-12 (an essential nutrient).

Well use subbstitutes like boca buggers and tofurkey and dont tell him
he will never know the difference
so he enjoy it and probably use it in the future!

The good thing about kids is that their food tastes are pretty simple. Order a half and half pizza and let him get whatever he wants on his half, and whatever you want on yours. Kids also love nachos, and that is very easy to make with beans instead of meat. He won't notice. I'm sure he'd love spaghetti with sauce and cheese. For most of the heavy cooking, just cook what you normally would cook for yourself. Just buy some lunch meat to have around so he can make himself sandwiches, and you won't even have to touch it. Go to the deli section of the grocery store, and they will have already cooked chicken, and all kinds of meat dishes.

I suggest cooking kid friendly vegetarian food and just not mentioning it. Try tacos with tofu scumbles, vegetarian lasagna, veggie burgers, etc. It won't kill him to eat a couple of vegetarian meals, infact it may do some good.

well you could just serve him vegetarian food, thats what i do to all of my guests, they dont usualy mind it, and its healthier, although i have to make ever one avoid more than meat due to the fact that im vegan. or if not you could just take him out to eat, because it would be wrong be forced to cook meat in your house bbecause you are opposed to it.

make food both of you can eat. try to make a vegan pizza.

Sit him down and explain to him that eating meat is murder and he will burn in hell for all eternity if he continues his disgusting meat eating ways.

And show him this video:

why dont you just prepare your tastiest vegetarian meals for the both of you. omnivores can eat vegetarian. it just cant go the other way. :)
