Does anyone know why orange juice tastes bad after brushing your teeth?!

Question:

Does anyone know why orange juice tastes bad after brushing your teeth?

Answers:
Because the sweeteners in the toothpaste raise the threshold for that particular taste in your mouth; and once you try something that is supposed to be sweet after that threshold has been raised, it'll taste really bitter.

Try OJ after having a sweet.. you'll get a very similar result.

everything does

I've wondered that myself too. I think it has something to do with the fact that toothpaste contains a lot of artificial sweetener (like aspartame) and tastes very sweet. Then when you have a sour and not-as-sweet orange, it tastes really bad.

OJ is nasty. Especially with pulp.

conflicting taste-buds....toothpaste is sweet...when you brush ur teeth you still have the sweet taste in ur mouth...then you drink something as "sour" as orange juice and the two mix and it doesn't taste as well...ur mouth is tasting both at the same time.

it just does!! ok! y cant u accept that!!!

It is the reaction of two chemicals. Toothpaste has para-hydroxy benzoic acid and makes tarter removal easier by breaking it down. After you are done, you have residual left in your mouth. This reacts with the ascorbic acid in orange juice and gives a bad taste. It is just the reaction of two acid, not dangerous, just weird. Generally the saliva in your mouth will dissolve the acid from the toothpaste after 15 minutes, after that it should be fine to drink orange juice.

I don't think mint and orange juice go together !!!!

Mint and sweetness of the orange juice are not good together.

it may be because of the acid in the OJ

i think its because of the citric acid
