Healthy Snacks?!

Question:

Healthy Snacks?

I babysit for small children and they don't eat very many healthy foods. Only one child is a prooblem with eating healthier things. Do you know any recipies for snacks that are healthy but don't look healthy. For example i made celery sticks with peanutbutter and raisins (ants on a log) and she devoured them. So... any others that youknow of?

Answers:
Make your own popsicles using natural fruit juice or yogurt.

Spread stuff on a tortilla and wrap it up (cheese, egg salad, lunch meat, peanut butter, sliced strawberries, cream cheese and black olives, avocado, veggies, etc.)

Air-popped popcorn with a tiny bit of butter and a shake of salt

Smoothies. Blend up fruit juice, frozen fruit, bananas, milk, yogurt, and whatever else you can think of. It doesn't matter what combination you use, it always tastes good! I have a friend who sneaks ground up Kale into her son's smoothies and calls it "Swamp Juice." He totally loves it and has no idea that he's drinking vegetables.

Graham crackers and milk.

Any type of sliced veggies with ranch dressing. I had three year olds eating alfalfa sprouts once, only because they could dip it in ranch dressing!

Baked apples with a little Cinnamon.

Bake muffins or banana bread and substitute applesauce for oil or butter. Also decrease the amount of sugar or substitute honey. The kids might enjoy helping bake as well!

That was a great idea (:
I know they sell Quaker granola bars with 90 calories per bar.
Also, rice cakes, there are 25-60 calories per cake and the kids wont know their healthy because they come in so many flavors like double chocolate chip, apple cinnamon, Peanut butter chunk, buttered popcorn, etc. More healthy obvious snacks are fruit, its sugary tasting and if you cut it up and serve it in a fun way, maybe the kids will enjoy it more. Adding things like honey and cinnamon sugar can also make it a bit more kid friendly.

I have a 6 year old and I know that he will eat anything that he can dip. Apple slices dipped in peanut butter or low fat carmel sauce. carrots with ranch dip. I also like to make banana zuchini bread with raisins you can make them in a muffin pan. I always add fruit to my sons yogurt. And another way is to make smoothies you can put about any type of fruit into a smoothie. I use lowfat icecream, milk and add berries, bananas, mangos, peaches whatever fruit is at hand. Good luck.

give them wheat thins.

carrott chesese bits

you could freeze a bunch of fruit (example bananas and strawberries) and throw them in a blender with a teeny bit of milk, you'll get a frozen yogurt consistancy and they should like that...

freeze individual yogurt with sticks in--eat em like a popsicle

Ooh! I've had a variation of your "ants on a log"; the only difference is that I use cream cheese instead of peanut butter. Try that out. :)
And you can also simply freeze up some grapes for the kids to eat; they're extremely good when cold. You can also give them small servings of jello with fruits/veggies hidden inside (for vegetables [ex. celery] chop them up very finely so the kids don't know they're eating it!).
