Simple Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1 egg
2 1/4 cups flour

Prep:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Beat sugar and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla, nutmeg and egg. Gradually stir in flour until well mixed.

2. Shape dough by teaspoonfuls into balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Press dough gently with bottom of lightly floured, flat-bottomed glass. Cookie should be about 1/4-inch thick. Sprinkle lightly with decorations (see below).

3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are just golden brown. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely. Store in airtight container up to one week.

buy the ones you just take out of the package and put on the tray.

Soft Sugar Cookies:

INGREDIENTS
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup granulated sugar for decoration

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and sugar. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt, stir into the creamed mixture until dough comes together. Roll dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in sugar. Place them on an unprepared cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until bottom is light brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.

Of course the most simple sugar cookies to make are bought from the store where you just slice the dough and bake!

2 eggs

Mix ingredients in order (1 at a time) in a large bowl. Then drop onto greased cookie sheets. Dip fork into sugar & press cookies into desired shape. Bake @ 375 degrees until golden.

Vanilla Sugar Cookie
Stir 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/4 tsp. salt in a small bowl. Beat 1/2 cup (1stick) softened unsalted butter, 3/4 cup sugar , 1 egg and 1/2 tsp vanilla in second bowl until blended.
Stir in flour mixture, gather into ball, wrap, refridgerate several hours or overnight. To bake, heat oven to 350F roll out dough with lightly floured rolling pin on lightly floured surface to 3/8 inch thickness. Cut with 4 1/2 - 5 inch snowman cookie cutter. Pres pretzel arms on underside of dough. Place on bake shett 1 1/2 inch apart.. Bake 350F oven 10-12 min until lightly borwned at edges, cool cookies on rack, makes 18 snowmen.

Royal Icing
Beat 3 tbsp. powdered egg whites, 4 cups (1lb box) confectioners sugar and 6 tbsp. water in bowl until peaks form and icing is textur of sour cream, 8-10min . Use to pipe on designs and to glue on decorations. Thin icing with a lil water, a drop at a time, until consistency of honey, use this for base coat on cookies*

* 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 1 cup butter, softened
* 1 1/2 cups white sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
