Need a vegan "ground beef" replacement... recipes?
I'm a new vegan, and looking for a recipe for something to use as a replacement for ground beef. Tofu? Seitan? What do you recommend?
Answers:
Morningstar farms makes a great veggie crumble!
Found in the freezer section with the rest of their products.
Also, if you go to a health food store or a grocery store that happens to have a natural foods section, there is a boxed vegetarian taco filling already flavored.
Hope this helps!

You'd be wise to ignore the answer from Al_sparagus.
He's really an anti-vegetarian/vegan troll who has nothing better to do with his time. Apparently he has TOO much free time..
Try eggplant. I don't know any recipes, but I would just cook it, mash it up with some bread or bread crumbs and then shape it into patties and cook it on a pan or on the grill.
Why would you want to repalce ground beef? If you want to make something as close to meat as possible you are not a true vegan, you are still unconciously holding on to your old meat eating ways.
Boca makes a "loose meat" kind of product that looks like hamburger, but is made of soy. look in the freezer section of the grocery store.
I am allergic to wheat and soy, so I cant use those-I use french black lentils (called lentil caviar) or other beans as a replacement. Its a good source of protein, and usually fills the bill for replacing ground beef in most recipes. Portabello mushrooms work well too. Ignore Al sparagus up there-he is a veggie wannabe that likes to troll this section
I usually go with the Boca soy ground round. It's the best one I can find on the market. It easily absorbs any seasoning you add to it. It also cooks really, really, fast. However, I feel that I have to use twice as much than the actual suggested amount because it shrinks while cooking.
I use the Boca protien crumbles. I found that they taste pretty good and look like ground beef, without all the satuated fat, and cholesterol.
I don't even wanna know why you'd want to replace ground beef ...
try boca products, but make sure it says vegan on the box because some boca products have milk and eggs in them.
At the store Morningstar Farms crumbles are vegan and reasonably priced. Also very good.
It depends on what type of recipe you're working with, sometimes mushrooms make a great replacement, or look for a vegan recipe for the dish you're trying to make.
Tell us what you're trying to make and we can be more help.
I would recommend using Morning Star’s meal starter ground beef. It tastes like the real thing... I’ve tricked many people with it :)
well
i would buy something canned.
you could try tofu... or you could crumble veggie burgers.
