Does any one know what would go good with cole slaw?!

Question:

Does any one know what would go good with cole slaw?

I want to make my fiancee a birthday dinner and he loves cole slaw (as long as its not plain) but I dont know what else to make to go with the cole slaw. Thanks

Answers:
fish and chips
For the fries:
1 gallon safflower oil
4 large Russet potatoes
Kosher salt
For the batter:
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Dash Old Bay Seasoning
1 bottle brown beer, cold
1 1/2 pounds firm-fleshed whitefish (tilapia, pollock, cod), cut into 1-ounce strips
Cornstarch, for dredging

Heat oven to 200 degrees F.
Heat the safflower oil in a 5-quart Dutch oven over high heat until it reaches 320 degrees.

Using a V-slicer with a wide blade, slice the potatoes with the skin on. Place in a large bowl with cold water.

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and Old Bay seasoning. Whisk in the beer until the batter is completely smooth and free of any lumps. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Note: The batter can be made up to 1 hour ahead of time.

Drain potatoes thoroughly, removing any excess water. When oil reaches 320 degrees, submerge the potatoes in the oil. Working in small batches, fry for 2 to 3 minutes until they are pale and floppy. Remove from oil, drain, and cool to room temperature.

Increase the temperature of the oil to 375 degrees. Re-immerse fries and cook until crisp and golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove and drain on roasting rack. Season with kosher salt while hot and hold in the oven.

Allow oil to return to 350 degrees. Lightly dredge fish strips in cornstarch. Working in small batches, dip the fish into batter and immerse into hot oil. When the batter is set, turn the pieces of fish over and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Drain the fish on the roasting rack. Serve with malt vinegar.

I don't really understand what you mean by "plain" coleslaw, but bbq is always good with cole slaw.

pulled pork or chicken sandwiches.
Baked/fried or bbq chicken
Spareribs
beans are a good side dish to compliment coleslaw.

Serve it right on top of a pulled pork sandwich. Or with any kind of BBQ or fried chicken or fish.

CAROLINA PULLED-PORK SANDWICHES

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe...

barbeque, hotdogs, baked chicken, fried chicken

there are several dishes, but the most popular is fried chicken or fried fish, I like scallops and shimp myself, coleslaw goes well with baked turkey or chicken also, or even steak sandwiches for that matter any kind of sandwiches, make a gourmet sandwich and a side of coleslaw...hope it helps

Fish is about the best thing.
The best fish is called Orange Ruffy.

Fish or chicken on the grill, chicken strips go well with coleslaw.

Cole Slaw goes with bar-b-q meats, fried chicken, and any kind of frankfurter or sausage. An easy one is to broil spicy Polish or Portuguese sausages (split open to toast the inside as well as the skins), serve a variety of mustard, and Cole slaw! Enjoy!

Although I like cole slaw with pulled pork sandwiches, my favorite is to use it with Fried Catfish and pinto beans. You can use canned pintos, but if you prefer to cook them from scratch use dried ones, soak overnight and clean and drain thoroughly, then cook them low and slow with chopped onion and garlic, salt and pepper. If you like them a little spicy add a jalapeno. Be sure and use corn meal with a little flour, salt and pepper added, to coat your catfish before you fry. I'd also male hush puppies, being sure to add regular onions and green onions to the batter before frying.

The tastes here match extremely well, and it is a fun and tasty meal.

FRIED FISH FILLETS

1 - 1 1/2 c. yellow cornmeal
1/2 tsp. salt, or to taste
1/2 tsp. pepper, or to taste
Peanut oil (3" deep in heavy skillet)
Fish fillets

Heat oil until very hot. Mix dry ingredients on waxed paper. Coat both sides of fillets with cornmeal. Fry a few fillets at a time. Turn once. When the fillet floats, it is done. Do not overcook.

GRILLED BBQ CHICKEN BREAST FILLETS

6 skinned/boneless chicken breasts
2 tbsp. A-1 steak sauce
1/3 c. catsup
2 tbsp. brown sugar

Bake or grill chicken breasts until tender. Mix remaining ingredients and brush on during last 3 to 5 minutes of cooking.

Fried chicken,pork chops,grilled steak,fried shrimp,fish,or any BBq meat....

Some kind of fish, that always goes good with Cole slaw, Like Fried Flounder, or Shrimp, or crab cakes . With French fries or a nice Green Salad.

creamy coleslaw is the best on top of sloppy joes . i call them wimpy burgers my whole family loves them .

EVERYTHING goes good with coleslaw!!
BBQ chicken or ribs, or a big ole steak on the grill would be great.

any barbequed meat goes great with coleslaw, so does baked ham.........sloppy joes do too.............
