Fried biscuit doughnuts??

anybody ever had the doughnuts made by frying refrigerated biscuit dough? i see paula deen has a recipe for it. i'm thinking of making it except i remember these "doughnuts" at this chinese restaurant i used to go to that seemed to be the same thing and weren't that hot. anybody had it? is it good?

My mom used to make these when I was little. She just used a can of biscuits -cheap ones. She used to stretch the biscuits out so they were long and she would twist them, then fry them in hot oil. Roll them in sugar and they are ready to eat. I made these a couple weeks ago, and I used cinnamon-sugar, regular sugar, powdered sugar. The powdered sugar ones are good because when they are hot, the sugar sticks and forms this thick "crust", for lack of a better word. Just keep rolling them in it til it won't take anymore sugar. Just before eating them, roll them in it again. I also made a thin icing tablespoon melted butter, dash of vanilla, powdered suar and hot water. Wait until the doughnuts have cooled a little bit before you dip or spread it on. You can do a chocolate icing the same way by adding cocoa. Adding maple extract or syrup to the white gives you maple. After I iced them, I rolled them in a variety of toppings...sprinkles, non-pareils, coconut, crushed peanuts, chocolate jimmies or anything you like. Good Luck!

I've made them lots of times and that is what is usually served in the chinese restaurants, although they usually don't cut a whole in the middle so the inside is more doughy. If you make them use the top from a soft drink bottle to cut the hole out, then fry these little pieces of dough.

The toppings are what make these donuts, plus the ease with which they are made. Usually the chinese places just use granulated sugar, but you can make a powdered sugar glaze, chocolate glaze or, even simpler use the granulated sugar and add a little cinnamon to it.

Be sure and use fresh oil. The dough picks up even a hint of staleness or whatever has already been fried in the oil.

Yeah, I've done this many times. They're a decent doughnut
if you're having a sweet fit. And surprisingly, I prefer them
over Krispy Kreme. Tip: Strain and save the oil you fry them in.

Yes, they are fun for children to make a quick donut. We just use some cheap canned biscuits. Poke a hole in them and fry in Peanut Oil. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or make a sugar sauce.
