just to make us that are already confused more confuseder!

Its because thats really what made him famous. Hes very quirky, and thats just part of the show. Lol.

That is what Rachel Ray is for. The whole premise of Alton Brown's show is to explain the chemistry and biology of the food. It is a good show with a little background knowledge. For some it does seem very comlicated, that is why the Food Network has so many people. People to cater for everyone. Alton is there for the science people.

It's what makes him famous. It is really a show for geeky people or people who just like knowing the science of food. The show really explains that food can be very complicated.

He just brings a different twist. He shows there is more to the culinary experience than just cooking and eating. I really enjoy his shows. He talks about history, science, pop culture and gadgetry. To me it makes food more interesting. He may not be for everyone, but I think that is the point with Food Network. They are catering to people with all different interests. Not everyone wants to just mix it together and put it in the oven.

Alton Brown's show is about the CHEMISTRY of cooking. His idea (which I get incidentally) is that if you know WHY foods do a certain thing, you can move beyond recipes and experiment with cooking. For example, his show on chocolate chip cookies - most shows would give you a recipe and be done with it. He explains that by varying the type and amount of flour, the amount of liquid etc., you can actually make the kind of chocolate chip cookies YOU prefer - thin and crispy, puffy and cakey, or chewy. His method of teaching is once you understand WHY things work a certain way you can achieve the result you want when you experiment.

People have differing communication styles. Some people need cut to the chase and some people need the history of the world part I, II and III. I suspect you are a cut to the chase type person. But for people who like history of the world... Alton Brown ROCKS!!!

because he is not just "cooking" a dish on his show, he is showing you what is actually happening to the food while you are cooking it. This makes you better understand what exactly is happening to your food so that it may end up being just like what you where expecting.

Alton Browns niche or catch is that he breaks down the cooking so that you not only learn some new recipes but, also learn the reason why things happen during cooking. I once heard, but I'm not 100% sure that he was a teacher before he got his big break with the Food Network.
