Sugar Vs. Sugar Alternatives - which is better for you?!

Question:

Sugar Vs. Sugar Alternatives - which is better for you?

What is better for you - sugar or the sugar alternatives such as Splenda? I know too much sugar is bad for you, but you do need some sugar once in a great while, but all I want to know which one is healthier or better for the body? Also, what are the pro's and con's of each?

Answers:
Artificial sugar, even Splenda, is not good for you. Regular sugar also is terrible because it's been refined. Eat natural foods without any sugar. If you need some extra sweetness, use honey.

You always want to use sugar when baking, do not use fake sugar, but for everything else just use Splenda. Splenda is better for you because real sugar turns into fat in the body overtime. Don't use any other sugar sustitute besides Splenda because the other ones are not good for you. They can give cancer, heart problems, and other serious conditions if ingested too much. Splenda is all natural because it is made from sugar. Of course real sugar is sweeter and tastes better, but Splenda comes close.

This is only my opinion but I would stay away from splenda. Sure it iS DERIVED from Natural sources but the whole process is ARTIFICIAL. No one.....NO ONE REALLY knows what problems these sweetners can cause years from now. OK...so now that we cleared that up: ARTIFICIAL BAD....NATURAL GOOD. Ok....so what NATURAL alternatives to sugar are there? I have one answer at least. AGAVE SYRUP. It tastes EXACTLY like sugar. You can use it the way you use sugar but your body digests it in a much healthier way. This form of sweetner goes back hundreds of years to the native americans. It's a little on the pricey side but it is sooo worth it, you can find it at your local whole foods market for sure. Give it a try. It comes in bottles like maple syrup. Hope this helps. I also included a link below to a natural health website I subscribe to for free. It has some info on splenda, I'm not sure if you will be able to see the page or not with out subscribing though, but it's worth a shot.

I also agree with "beesting" as well.

As a beekeeper for 20 years, we still use Honey as our only sweetener.

Is it healthy?

My son received the one and only 5 year perfect attendance record at his grammar school. The principal gave him a special award because he had never heard of any kids going 5 years without being late or absent...........

Research the benefits of Honey, you'd be surprised.

I use splenda for anything that needs sugar. Suger is just carbs, you'll get them in fruits and veggies and bread and noodle and.......

Even tho i've had a little sugar problem lately, i've been told by my dr. regular is always better and I agree. bettyk

nither but if you must go with the real thing sugar
korkie

Well I believe that just plain ole sugar is good for you versus all the substitutes. You just have to use moderately.

as long as you are using sugar in moderation, all is fine with real sugar because your body can burn carbs relatively easily. I try to stay away from the processed foods that contain high fructose corn syrup and instead I tend to sweeten things up myself with either cane sugar, brown sugar, or honey
