I'm baking some cakes and the recipe states that i should add vanilla extract.?!

Question:

I'm baking some cakes and the recipe states that i should add vanilla extract.?

I sent my idiotic boyfriend to the shop with a shopping list but the dope came back with vannila essence. Even with a list he still manages to get it wrong. Please can somebody tell me if using the essence instead of the extract will make any difference.

Answers:
Theres no difference really, what you have will be fine. I feel sorry for your boyfriend though - do you always talk about him like that?!

yeah

essence is not as nice as extract

Artificial Vanilla Extract is often referred to as "vanilla essence". You can use it. I would use just a little more than the recipe calls for as the essence is a watered down version. I have used both imitation and pure and had great results. The essence is much more reasonable in price as well.

darn men! I sent mine to the store for baking powder, this fool came back with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda!

anyway...yuh, it does matter if the recipe calls for vanilla, it makes a huge diff in the taste, especially pies and cakes. One is pure and the other is a synthetic version.

vanilla essense indeed....MEN!

The difference is that vanilla essence is a concentrated artificial vanilla flavour, whereas vanilla extract actually comes from the vanilla pod. For cake making, vanilla essence will be fine, but only use a drop or two as it's quite strong. The flavour will be fine. Vanilla extract is obviously nicer, and in desserts (custard, creme brulee etc) you can tell the difference, but in a cake, not so much.

Be grateful that he goes shopping for you, some guys won't!

I have made cakes before with essence rather than extract, although the essence isn't as strong, so I would add a little more of at (don't over do it though).

Good luck with the cake baking

yeah add it!!!

You have a very clever boyfriend- you call him mean names when you send him to do a chore for you, so he does it in a way you won't ask again. I feel bad for him, if you write about him this way he knows how you feel.

You can use vanilla essence. He saved you some money- in a cake you won't notice.

I would suggest you to quit your boyfriend because of the way you think about him. On the other hand there s no difference.

do you always refer to your b/f as idiotic. be thankful he goes to the store for you. Use the vanilla extract

Vanilla essence is like the cheap substitution of pure vanilla extract. If your cake has other flavors maybe it will go unnoticed but if it's the only flavoring of your cake I'm afraid you'll notice the difference.......
smell the essence and you'll see what I'm talking about

You can use it... it is just artificial flavor... My goodness, you like to complain about your boyfriend....go to the store yourself next time!!

it is OK toad vanilla but deepens what cakes you making

Usually, vanilla extract is genuine vanilla, while vanilla essence is often artificially concocted. Genuine vanilla extract is more expensive.

Most people won't notice the difference if you use one instead of the other.

extract is the pure stuff!the oher is artifical flavours!dont you have good standards girl!
