People say that because nearly EVERYONE knows what chicken tastes like, so its like a universal adjective to describe new foods. Lol.

funny you should ask. I had alligator for dinner tonight and remarked that it tasted like chicken.
Chicken by itself is so bland that it really doesn't taste like anything so that is a convenient descriptor for a new food that people can't quite describe. By now it has become a joke phrase not to be taken seriously.
That's a good question, because I have tasted many of those foods and they never tasted like chicken to me.
That is funny.... Most people say it at first "it taste like chicken", then add to the statement "a fishy chicken".... That's kinda nasty fishy chicken! LOL!!
