You need clarified butter.

Heat the butter in a pan, until it just melts. Do not overheat or it will burn or develop an off taste.

Pour the melted butter into a tall glass or measuring cup and let the solids settle to the bottom.

The "clear oil" butter on top is what you want.

The whitish "milky" looking stuff on the bottom is to be tossed in the trash. It's this milky stuff that sogs out the popcorn.

Enjoy : )

mine only shrivels when i add the butter when it is really hot. also if you add too much butter it will shrivel it. Try using about a half a stick of unsalted butter then add popcorn salt or a little regular if you don't have popcorn salt (popcorn salt grains are much finer. what recipe do you use?

Are you using Butter or Margarine?
I think movie popcorn is popped in Coconut Oil, expensive.

Never heard of movie theater butter. So, that must mean that they're using popcorn with the butter FLAVOR already PROCESSED into it.

By the way, I think it's cute that you think the real thing is "gross". My real butter's been screwing up my popcorn ever since I can remember, but boy, do I love the way it tastes! Yum!

Which brings me to speculate at how we must be getting used to all the fake food that's out there if someone can find real butter gross. I'm not picking on you; I just can't believe at how much society has accepted when it comes to food and down-home cooking. Hardly anyone cooks from scratch anymore and personally I find that sad.
