How long is sugar good for if kept in an air tight container?!

Question:

How long is sugar good for if kept in an air tight container?

Answers:
Sugar is good indefinitely. It does not have an expiration date. Like you said, an airtight container. That's the key.

uhh i dont really think air matters, only if it is exposed to liquid then i will get all lumpy and stuff. idk

I had an unopened box of sugar that was 3 1/2 years old that was still fine.

Probably forever...it should also be stored away from sunlight, dampness or high temperatures. Air-tight oughta get 'er done. Sugar is one of the few cupboard staples that doesn't acquire, er, Little Visitors...flour, cornmeal, baking mixes, hot cereal things, etc., seem to arrive in your kitchen with the [can it be?] seeds of little critters...but in all the years of cooking, moving, living poor 'n cheap in nasty places, etc., I've never had any problems with sugar. It will occasionally clump up, but a brisk thump will restore it to "sifti-ness".

forever!

It's good forever and it doesn't need to be airtight just kept free of moisture, but the moisture won't cause it to go bad, just clump. Then you have to grind it before you use it.

Seriously you could use sugar dug up from Egyptian tombs.
