Here are a couple of recipes to help:

SHOO FLY PIE

2 (8") unbaked pie shells
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. Crisco (or use 1/2 c. Crisco + 1/4 c. butter)
1 c. light molasses
1 c. water
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix flour and sugar together. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse bread crumbs. Pour molasses into a small bowl. Add baking soda. Add water and mix well. Divide molasses mixture evenly between the pie shells. Divide flour mixture in half and sprinkle over the molasses mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. (This makes a wet bottom shoo fly pie.)

SHOO - FLY PIE

3/4 c. Grandma's molasses
3/4 c. boiling water
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. (packed) light brown sugar
9" (1) crust unbaked pastry

Pour water and molasses on top of soda and salt in small bowl. Stir with spoon until foamy. Mix flour, butter and sugar with hands until like crumbs. Pour 1/3 molasses mixture into bottom of pastry. Sprinkle with 1/3 of crumb mixture. Alternate layers, ending with crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.
