Can anyone tell me thee name of a Mexican pastry?
I grew up in Chicago with a little Mexican bakery right up the street. The made this dessert that was almost like a pin roll. I think it was white cake with a custard in the center & on the top of it was this red I mean really red goo with coconut on top of it...Can anyone tell me what this is called? If you can I'd be ever so greatful. Thanks.

They are called Encocadan.
They are my favorite..They have two styles..the pinwheel and like a biscuit two pieces together with the custard in the middle..Lookes like a baseball with coconut all over... :)
You can find them at all mexican bakeries...Just ask for the red ones with coconut..
I don't know the name of it but I am from California. San Diego to be exact and I am pretty sure its some sort of Pan Dulce, maybe try to google "Pan Dulce from Mexico" that could be a good place to start. Food Network also may surprisingly have something that maybe close to what your looking for. Good luck.
The good people at BeDoy Bakery in San Antonio can probably help you find your lost sweet. Pan Dulce and other Mexican Pastry comes in many shapes and with many fillings and icing. You can contact them at http://bedoysbakery.com/
its a raspberry sweet bread, don't know the name but does it have coconut?
i don't know what it is your talkin about but when i asked my mom she said it called a "YO-YO" made by Pan Dulce. Hope this helps.
Although I'm not from Chicago, I know exactly what you are talking about. At the Houston bakery we used to buy at, it's called Nino Envuelto.
