yes they are... because they don't eat meat?

no. there is milk in them. (Vegan)

Dark chockolate is though...

M&Ms are vegetarian, but not vegan or lactose in tolorant, 'cause the chocolate has milk in it.

Chocolate - no, it has bugs in it
Peanuts - yes
Candy coating - yes

Definatley not, they contain E120 which is cochineal (red colouring made from dead insects) the whey used currently contains rennet too. However mars are due to switch back to vegetarian rennet soon, so you'd be able to eat all except the red ones !
