What exactly is a grit? Is it grown like rice?!

Question:

What exactly is a grit? Is it grown like rice?

Answers:
It is a corn product......the corn is dried and the hull and germ removed then it is crushed.

Cornmeal on the other hand, is flour made from dried corn, but it can still have the hull.

To me it is bland, you can mix any thing in it, like cheese, or just salt pepper and butter. I do know that a few spoonfuls makes a lot.......if you buy a box it is cheap and will nearly last a lifetime LOL (just kidding)

It's basically cornmeal, ground hominy.

its good

Grits is made from cornmeal - just not ground up so finely........Cornmeal, of course comes from corn. Nothing better than a big bowl of shrimp & grits, with plenty of melted cheese.......Yummy!!

Grits are corn broken into small bits. Check the website below.

It is made from corn.

If you take a kernel of corn and soak it in lye, you get hominy. If you grind that, you then get grits.

It is about the consistency of oatmeal, some people add butter and jelly, or syrup to it, and others add butter and cheese.
