Refreezing Food?!

Question:

Refreezing Food?

My mom says you're not supposed to refreeze food because you could get sick if you eat it. Like if I bought a frozen pizza and it completely thawed out before I got it home, I can't refreeze it. I'm supposed to bake it right then or throw it out. Is this true? And if so what happens to it that it can make you sick??

Answers:
Being from a farm I know you can refreeze most anything. Most everything you buy at the supermarket has been or is frozen. The biggest thing is that with refreezing food is that the moleculur structure gets broken down more each time you freeze it. Ever see a product that looks fresh, but says fresh frozen on the label? Ever buy fish at the market? Fishermen at sea put their catch on ice ASAP. Unless you buy locally grown food chances are it has been frozen before, at least once.

Foods like prepared pizza or cooked ham, or cheese, that thaw completely but DO NOT grow warm, are generally safe and can be refrozen. Texture might change, though.

Raw foods like meat, chicken and fish are risky.

If you buy a frozen pizza ~~or ~~ anything frozen, yes you most certainly can refreeze those items. If you thaw out, for example, Chicken, pork, ground beef , etc , from your freezer, it is then that you cannot refreeze that item, it must be cooked. Hang in there, it takes time to understand these things :)
