I need a recipe for the best smelling cookies?!

Question:

I need a recipe for the best smelling cookies?

My BF and I are trying to sell our home, and someone is coming to look at it tomorrow. This will be a first experience for us!

Someone told me to bake cookies before they come to make the house smell "homey". This may sound a bit absurd, but since I am a psychology major, I do believe that if the sense of smell is satisfied, it could be to our advantage. So far, the house smells like cleaning products!

Anyways, I need a recipe for cookies that will make the whole place smell good. Something simple; I won't have much time.

Any favorites???

I was in the mood for oatmeal cookies and saw this recipe. I made them with real sugar and they were great! They would be awesome with some heath bits!

p.s these are coffee oatmeal cookies and if you want you could add a few raisins....totally up to you ... the house will smell so good........

buy a cook book!

Go buy a bag of nestle tool house morsels- the semi sweet chips. Take the recipe for chocolate chip cookies on the back and modify it by replacing the 3/4 cup of sugar with a package of vanilla pudding mix and 1/4 cup of sugar. (keep the brown sugar measurement the same) reduce the salt to half of what it calls for (I'm sorry I don't remember because I don't measure it!) and make a batch of those. Chocolate chip cookies smell so good- and if you leave a plate of these ones out for your buyers they'll love you!

As a side note, when you're mixing in the flour do it by hand because this will give you a softer texture. I also use margarine in my cookies- none of that store brand stuff either- get Parkay or Blue Bonnet.

Good luck on selling your house!

Here are three that I would recomend. They are all wonderfully aromatic when they cook, and guest will be hungry when they walk into your kitchen. It somewhat depends on your taste, but all get five stars:

If you like cinnamon, then Snicker Doodles are wonderful. You mix cinnamon and sugar and roll a base sugar cookie in them. They smell wonderful when cooking.

Also, Gingerbread cookies smell great. Most everybody seems to love Gingerbread.

And if you want chocolate, I love this recipe. But I much prefer substituting Ghirardelli's dark chocolate chips to the Neslie's. The attached recipe has more vanilla and salt than others, and is more savory. I substitute half lard for the butter and I think it ads something and makes it better.

Here's my favorite Gingerbread, the Others are in the links:

Gingerbread Cookies

? Cup Butter
? Cup Brown Sugar
? Cup Dark Molasses
1/3 Cup Cold Water

3 ? Cup All Purpose Flour
1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Ginger
? tsp All Spice
? tsp Salt
? tsp Ground Cloves

Beat: Butter, sugar, molasses and water.

Mix: in a separate bowl four, soda and all spices.

Blend: Together, then chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight.

Roll: and cut, Ginger man, Ginger Bunnies, little bats, angels, cowboys etc.

Bake: at 350? for 10-15 minutes

Note: I like to make 'Ginger Bunny Cookies' with my bunny press. I roll the dough in a ball, dip the press in melted butter, or lard, then let most of it drip off. Then dip the press into sugar. You can usually get several presses per treatment.

Have fun!

Also, I've heard bread it great too!

Oatmeal Cookies
Coconut Macaroon cookies
and ol' reliable Chocolate cookies.

Good Luck with the open house.
