Answers:
It is a Kiwano, African Horned Cucumber or Melon, Jelly Melon. The spiny fruits have a bland citrus or banana-like flavor. They are difficult to use because of the seeds. The fruit pulp can be strained to make a juice. The fruit turns bright orange when it is ripe. The ripe interior has a lime green jelly-like flesh with large seeds. The primary marketing thrust, however, is to sell the fruit for garnishes or decorative purposes.

I've also read they're nasty!
***I just got my newest Reader's Digest, and the kiwano melon was highlighted in it! They say: It's a cross between a melon and a cucumber, with edible seeds and a tart cucumber tast. Slice and eat it raw, or in a smoothie, soup or sauce.
Also highlighted were the Prickly Pear Cactushttp://www.survivaliq.com/survival/edibl... Pomelo http://fruitseasons.com/pomelo,... Feijoa http://www.wegmans.com/kitchen/ingredien... and Loquat http://fruitseasons.com/loquat.***...
