Aluminum Pot/Cleaning?!

Question:

Aluminum Pot/Cleaning?

I have the dumb question of the day!
How do you clean a aluminum cooking pot that had motor oil or transmission fluid in it?

We want to use it to cook some food in it.

What is the best way to clean this pot, so it would be safe for food?

Best answer gets 10 points!

Answers:
Congratulations! That was some question.
Seriously, why don't you give up the whole idea and get some stainless steel pans? The iron and other minerals in it are actually good for you. Aluminium is not. I know people used to say that you'd have to cook with aluminium for 300 years before it would harm you, but unfortunately, if there's any fluoride in the food or water then this is not the case. Fluoride increases uptake of aluminium and the result i an increased risk of Alzheimer's.

I would use dish detergent and a scotch bright pad. If the pan is anodized you should have no problem.

Use kitchen towels to get the residue out first then wash it with plenty of washing up liquid. Then wash it AGAIN with clean water and lots of washing up liquid.. If you wanted to you could use washing powder the first wash. And no harm in boiling water in the pot before you use it....
Will be fine then...

My dad swears by rhubarb, it works for my burnt pans!!

Others might laugh but Vinegar or lemon and a bit of baking soda are the best cleaning agents.
Try them and see,

Maybe these other solutions work, but unless you're really hard up, you might not want to even try. Aluminum is pretty porous at the microscopic level, and so it would be hard to remove all traces of the oil/fluid, so I would avoid trying this. Aluminum pots are pretty cheap, so maybe think about just buying a new one. Sorry.

I hate to say that the pot will probably never be safe for food again no matter what you do to try and clean it. Throw it out and buy a new one.

And next time you drain motor oil or transmission fluid from your vehicle, use old coffee cans or something other than a cooking pot.

I have to agree with the earlier answer. RHUBARB this will clean any pot like magic!
