How to broil a top round (london broil)?

Ok so i have never broiled anything in the oven before, i have marinated my 3 pound top round(london broil) and i have the pan, i was wondering how to do this? do I wrap in foil, how long do i cook for...everything! THANKS!

Answers:
london broil
1 lb beef flank steak, get the best you can find
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cloves garlic, crushed
Cut both sides of steak in a diamond pattern, 1/8 inch deep.
Cook and stir onions and 1/4 salt in butter until onions are tender.
Keep this mixture warm.
Mix remaining ingredients; brush half on one side of the beef.
Broil 3 inches from heat for 5 minutes.
Turn and brush with remaining oil mixture.
Broil 5 more minutes.
Cut across grain in thin slices.
Serve with onions.

London broil is a tough piece of meat. I would suggest braising it.

aluminum foil, just lay it on there and keep an eye on it.

Turn your oven on broil, broil. I put my rack on the very top one, you can put it one below if you want. I guess it depends how thick your steak is. Put the steak on your broiler pan. It's a metal pan in two pieces, (square or rectangular) the top piece has slots (for the juices to go through & catch in the bottom pan), & the top piece sits on top of the bottom pan. Do not wrap the steak. Depending on the thickness of the meat or how you like your steak cooked, between 5 to 10 minutes a side.

Meat keeps cooking a bit after you take it out of the oven/off the flame. And let it sit for a few minutes before you cut into it to lock in the juices.

I don't know what David is talking about. Your broiler is the heat coming from the top of the oven. When you broil something it cooks from the top. There is no bottom broiler. The bottom is the one that turns on when you turn your oven to bake. Anywho. I found you a link. It has directions for the cuts of meat, the temp you cook it on and for how long. Hope you enjoy your steak.

London Broil is a tough piece of meat. I marrinate it in vinegar all day and than when i get ready I Put it under the broiler & broil it for like 10 - 15 minutes on each side. No you don't put any tin foil on it. We like ours medium rare, Good luck

Ash a big hug to you NOTES REVIZED!!! cut the way I suggest it comes out like butter-with a little chew if you get some edge grissle-I had it yesterday and it was all good my way.

your stove if its a top broiler-then use the top rack unless the meat is within an inch of the coils. Remember if you dont cut it as I say in this answer later it will swell up and if its close it will end up smokin the house up and touching or near touching the coils.

if its an under =bottom broiler you may want to keep the pan on the lower rack if its got two slides in it for the broiler pan.

ok to start with you want to use the broiling pan with its natural strainer cover to set the meat on so it can drain-or it will be boiling in its own fat=not good

NOW ON WITH THE STEAK

yet if you like the taste of a nice steak any other way than well done-of this size -I explain some problems you will encounter later-cut in half with a big knife by its length in the middle=two steaks half as thick straight cook, forking it and putting on meat tenderizer punctured and salt and pepered too both sides,
but lets work with what you got, you may end up prefering it marinated-

best for an outdoor grill-but my way lol is so simple and most prefere it best

ok if its 2" thick is a problem-broiling it will pucker up in the middle and get about 3" thick and shrink in girth/length to about half the size -IF THIS IS OK THEN YOU CAN BROIL IT WHOLE-THOUGH IT WILL TEND TO GRISSLE UP SOME

THANKS, David
