Help! I'm making stuffed jalapenos and I can't get the burning off. What works?!

Question:

Help! I'm making stuffed jalapenos and I can't get the burning off. What works?

I'm trying a recipe that includes butterflying them and taking all membranes and seeds out. I did that. Then I soak them in salt water. This is what makes them lose their "hotness". Anyway, these were so strong I was choking, gagging, eyes burning, etc. I have washed and scrubbed and it my finger tips still burn. I'm afraid I may accidently rub my eyes.
What helps take it off?

Answers:
That happened to me once. I will never do it again! Next time, use gloves.

Wash you hands multiple times with soapy water. If that doesn't work, soak them in milk. If you are still in pain, call your poison control center, and they may be able to give you some advise. I have a magnet on my fridge with the number. If it is still accurate, the number is 1-800-222-1222.

In case you should ever have to grind any dried hot peppers, be very careful, because the dust can do the same thing to your eyes and throat as the peppers did to your hands this time.

The heat in the pepper is actually in the seeds.

I wish you luck. I know you are in a lot of pain, and I hope you get some relief soon.

If you have taken out the membranes there is not much else you can do. The membranes hold the heat, so soaking them in salt water does nothing to them. And just TRY not to touch your eyes. No amount of washing will get the capsicum off your fingers. If you do happen to touch your eyes though, rinse with water and consult a physician. That stuff can cause some damage. AND make sure you don't have any cuts, this can hurt too. Also, wearing latex gloves helps.

Get cold milk and dip your fingers in there. I dont know why that works, but I have done it and it feels a lot better. good luck.

Next time wear disposable rubber gloves.....soap & water should take out the jalepeno from the skin. Try lemon juice than wash your hands again.

SERIOUSLY TRY THIS

Stainless Steel! If you have a stainless steel sink, pot or pan - run you hands on it. IT WORKS!

I have a stainless steel bar that is just for this reason!

also works for taking the garlic smell off your hands!

tomato juice

Salt... Table Salt.
Wash your hands with it like soap.
I swear it takes it out.

Don't soak in salt water but use the actual salt

I used to roast hot chiles and had the same problem. I'm afraid that the only thing i can tell you is to keep washing them, but use cool water instead of warm. It will eventually cool down. I'm sorry that happened to you. Be sure that if you do it again, get some surgical gloves. Just be careful NOT TO PUT YOUR FINGERS IN YOUR EYES, NOSE, OR ANY OTHER SENSITIVE AREA. AND BE CAREFUL OF CUTS AND SORES.

I just had another idea. It works for sunburn, so it may work for this, too. Try soaking your fingers in vinegar. Any kind should work.

Cold cream (ie: Ponds, etc...) will remove the acid from chiles, onions, garlic, and others from your skin. It is also good to use after cleaning fish.

Wash your hands with a fresh lemon or lemon juice, this will take it off your hands and be sure to re-wash them with hot soap and water, this should do the trick...

Vero is right... the only thing that works is salt.

Just dampen your fingers then sprinkle plain ol' table salt on and rub well, then wash.
