How long does caviar last in a sealed container?!

Question:

How long does caviar last in a sealed container?

I bought back some Beluga Caviar on a trip to Istanbul, and while it was kept cool, it wasnt kept at 0-4Celsius like some sites say it should.
I've now had it 3 weeks, and it's in a sealed jar in the fridge. I cant read the lid (it's in Russian) and wondered whether its still okay to eat.
I had a tummy bug a week ago and felt awful, so dont want to eat anything that's going to make me ill again.
Any experts out there know what I should do?

Answers:
when i worked as a chef we kept it in the fridge for a couple of weeks before using it but once it had been opened used it within 5 days. but if it has been warmed up you need to be careful. smell it before eating. its its off you'll know about it!

I'm not an expert, but long experience and a challenged immune system, reckons it will probably be fine.
As the previous answer says, if it smells OK, it is probably Ok since it hasn't been opened.
Us "oldies" (pre date labelling) always reckoned that we were given senses to deal with possible food problems - if it smells OK, if it looks OK, if it tastes OK, then Common sense says it is OK.
Now they are even labelling honey with a date - ridiculous!!!!

Now if it wasn't kept like almost near freezing it would be a shame.......cause at best, when fresh, maybe a month....it's not something you keep around like that....so I don't know what to tell you.....maybe google it, and google stomach poisoning while you there so you can tell if you made a mistake by eating it.....I have to admit....If I went through the trouble and it was there I'd have to give it a shot LOL LOL, If it smells god awful (which it does nearly normally lol) I don't know man....flip a coin LOL LOL
