Boston brown bread is typically sold in cans. It is a sweet bread made with molasses. It was common among the whaling culture in New England in the 1800's. Since the show SpongeBob uses a lot of New England seafaring imagery, I wouldn't be surprised if they meant Boston brown bread.

Hi Angela,

You have asked a good question and one which I amazed to find out that you can and its available in Germany. You read about it and order it on the schwartzbrot.com website.

The freezer section at the market, next to the eggs and cheese.

Usually back east you can buy Boston Brown Bread.

Or look up a recipe for brown bread. You steam it in an older can. It's sooo tasty.

Good with cream cheese or beans.
