Question:

What foods contain carbohydrates?

I'm going on a diet and have been told the best thing to do is avoid carbohydrates and eat plenty of proteins, what foods contain carbohydrate

Answers:
99.9% of food contains Carbohydrates!

Unless you mean HIGH amounts of Carbs

Then anything from your usual wheats ,,

Potatoes
Pasta
Lentils
Beans
cereal
Bread

All the foods that when you eat feel full very quickly.

Hi
Potatoes, bread, pasta etc

The best things to avoid are fats.
You need carbohydrates to "burn up"

not all carbs are bad!
but carbs generally break down as sugars

so limit- potatoes, pasta, bread( wholemeal is good tho)
Junk foods contain a lot of carbs.such as potato chips, pretzels, cookies etc. Protein is good as keeps you full for longer
Foods that are high in fibre, but also high in carbs are good though, such as Lentils,Peas, beans, plant foods. they do not raise the blood sugar levels quickly like non plant carbs

You get two types of carbs: Complex and Refined:

Complex:
Bread, pasta, potatoes, beans, wheat, wholewheat cereals.

Refined:
Sugar, cakes, crisps, chips, biscuits, chocolate.

Cut out Refined and eat a sensible amount of complex.

Starchy food

Basic rule is if a food contains sugar it contains carbs. The more sugar in a product the more carbs.

Does just mean products with added sugars, natural sugars (ie) fructose in fruit is a source of carbs as well.

bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, anything made with wheat or cornflour. other carbohydrates are sugars and fibre, but i assume your diet requires you to eat less strarchy foods.

Please keep perspective. I'm afraid this generation is going to do to carbs what my generation did to fat-- demonize it. Carbohydrates are not a "bad" thing found in food. Neither is fat. In fact-- they ARE food. Basically, your body only knows three kinds of food in the world-- protein, fat and carbs. They're all good-- just in the right amounts. Don't think of any of them as a thing to be avoided-- just balanced.

bread, pasta, cereal..granola...
