My favorite American Chinese food is the "Happy Family". The serving is large enough for two persons so my husband and I normally order one and we share the food and the rice which comes with it. We like just plain steamed rice better than the fried rice because the sauce that is cooked with the food makes plain steamed rice so tasty! But the flavor is lost in an already flavored fried rice accompaniment. This dish has a variety of vegetables like Pak Choy slices, water chestnut slices, baby corn, carrot slices, broccoli florets, bamboo shoot slices ,straw mushrooms and snow peas.
It varies from restaurant to restaurant but most are similar with an ingredient less or an ingredient more. The meats that are in it include: beef, chicken , char siew(roast pork),shrimp, scallops and in some places, a little bit of lobster! Price range : about $12 a dish.
I mentioned "American Chinese" because there are different Chinese dishes that I love and they are made in different parts of the world. Hongkong Dim Sum is a favorite that you can eat at only some restaurants and of course, in Hongkong
where it originated and this is served in little bamboo steamers and consists of different things, some steamed and some deep fried, meat dumplings, shrimp dumplings etc. too many to list or describe. It is very costly because they are all made individually....labor costs.
In Peru, I had the best Chinese seafood fried rice I had ever tasted in my life!
In Singapore, where I originally came from and the land of my birth, I have a lot of favorite dishes there but too many favorites to list or describe!
