Greek yogurt?!

Question:

Greek yogurt?

i don't have any greek markets near me. any suggestions on where i could get some greek yogurt,a whole foods store maybe? and if not would it be possable to substitute with regular plain yogart to make tzatziski(sp?)?

Answers:
You can use regular yogurt. Make sure you get plain and NOT a low fat version. Line a small strainer with coffee filters (or cheesecloth), pour the yogurt into it, cover with more coffee filters. Place the strainer over a bowl, and set a pot with water in it on top of the yogurt, inside the strainer. That will help squeeze out the liquid and make it thicker like a Greek Yogurt. Put it in your fridge for a few hours while the liquid drains and then take the yogurt out of the coffee filters, put in a bowl and proceed as you normally would with your recipe.

I love homemade tzatziki

They sell it at Trader Joe's.

I have never bought Greek yogurt, but the recipe for the tzatziki can be found on the Food Network website. It's usually made with just plain yogurt. Be sure to spell it the way I've spelled it above.

Whole foods sells it - but the strainer method is also a very good idea

If you can't find any greek yoghurt, then look for a turkish supermarket and buy the 10% fat yoghurt. Just as rich and thick and delicious for tzaziki. If will not become watery after adding the cucumber. It is wise when making tzaziki to sprinkle salt over the cucumber(grated of chopped) and place in a colander so that excess water will be released. That way it will remain creamy.

Yep, the strainer idea! Greek yogurt has less water in in, making it thicker. Any yogurt will work for tzatziki. It will just be a little thinner if you don't have the Greek kind.

Krinos has now come up with their own Tzatziski sauce it's amazing and better than making your own.

where do you live? If UK, then Sainsbary's have it. It is lovely, light one and normal one.

Come let's eat together, I cook lots of things with Greek yogurt.

look for the fage yoghurt :]
