Animal Testing?!

Question:

Animal Testing?

I've always wondered the point of animal testing...won't animals have different reactions then humans do to products? Is there an alternative to animal testing?

Answers:
Exactly we have totally differnt biology systems to animal so what is the point just because a cure doesnt work on mice does not mean it wont work on humans and alternatively we could of thrown away hundreds of cures because they didnt work on animals, We could of cured cancer years ago. and the abuse the animals go through even the ones that promise high animal welfare have been reported for animal abuse it is absolutely sick. I totally disagree with it. why must we abuse these animals? just because they cant fight back and talk we think they are less superior than ourselves which is not true it just males us barbaric. we need to change this.

oh, i thought you said animal tasting. i think alot of them taste good, if you want to know

Yes. You can personally do your part for animal rights by volunteering to take the place of an animal in a clinical drug study. Go on, do it. You'll feel better about yourself. Really.

Why! Why does all the crap we consume have to be tested on animals first? A rabbit doesn't need lipstick! A Rabbit doesn't use hair spray! A monkey doesn't need pills to get revved up for hot, monkey sex! It's people man, we're miserable!

As a regular meat eater and general omnivore I still feel that certian product testing is very wrong and should be stopped. I understand that some medical testing on animals is necessary though I might not like it in some cases there is no other way. Cosmetics on the other hand....no animal should be put through testing for the sake of vanity.

The alternitive to animal testing is testing on us. Animal testing is used in just about everything. if it don't hurt the animal then it probably won't hurt us. It is used in testing for cancer, diabietes, aids, ect. If it wasn't for animals the organ transplant programs wouldn't exisit nor would your shampoo or makeup. Animal testing is needed to help us defeat these dieseses and help us in our day to day life. If you don't agree then offer up yourself for testing, it would save the animals that are bred to do this.

-At least 50 drugs on the market cause cancer in laboratory animals. They are allowed because it is admitted the animal tests are not relevant.

-Less than 2% of human illnesses (1.16%) are ever seen in animals.

-When asked if they agreed that animal experiments can be misleading 'because of anatomical and physiological differences between animals and humans', 88% of doctors agreed.

-Up to 90% of animal test results are discarded as they are inapplicable to man

-Lemon juice is a deadly poison, but arsenic, hemlock and botulin are safe according to animal tests.

You are absolutely right-the animals react totally different to the products that are tested on them!
And not only that, but in most cases, even when the animal has a negative reaction, they STILL will mass produce the product for human use and consumption!!
Some companies have used humans to test their products on, because after all, won't the products be used by humans in the end?
But those companies that create natural products do not use animal testing.

you're absolutely right. animals and people aren't the same biologically.
There is a wealth of investigative methods that produce results accurately, efficiently and at less cost than animal research. Some of these methods have been used successfully for centuries, such as autopsy studies, clinical observation and epidemiology (the study of the incidence of disease within segments of the human population). New technologies, such as computer simulations, mathematical modeling, in vitro research and diagnostic imaging also have the potential to replace animal research.

here's some animal testing quotes that I like:

"If we cut up beasts simply because they cannot prevent us and because we are backing our own side in the struggle for existence, it is only logical to cut up imbeciles, criminals, enemies, or capitalist for the same reasons." ~C. S. Lewis

"...we sacrifice other species to our own not because our own has any objective metaphysical privilege over others, but simply because it is ours. It may be very natural to have this loyalty to our own species, but let us hear no more from the naturalists about the "sentimentality" of anti-vivisectionists. If loyalty to our own species--preference for man simply because we are men--is not sentiment, then what is?" ~C. S. LEwis

"Atrocities are not less atrocities when they occur in laboratories and are call medical research."~George Bernard Shaw

"Every year tens of thousands of animals suffer and die in laboratory tests of cosmetics and household products...despite the fact that the test results do not help prevent or treat accidental or purposeful misuse of the products. Please join me in using your voice for those whose cries are forever sealed behind the laboratory doors." ~ Woody Harrelson

"I abhor vivisection. It should at least be curbed. Better, it should be abolished. I know of no achievement through vivisection, no scientific discovery, that could not have been obtained without such barbarism and cruelty. The whole thing is evil." ~ Dr. Charles W. Mayo

"I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't...The pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further." ~ Mark Twain

Vivisection(animal testing) is cruel, pointless, and unnecessary. I don't see why they continue practicing it. If you want to help stop the needless brutality, then try to quit purchasing from products who experiment on defenseless animals. Proctor & Gamble is an example of this...you might want to google search what other products are tested on animals...I can't right now because my computer's being stupid...sorry. I would give you a list if I could...well I gotta go...bye and good luck living cruelty-free if you don't already. oh and thanks for caring.

Not really an answer but just to go more with your question: When you get a pesky cold, you don't try to go to your dog's vet, right? Everyone would think you were crazy. That's because animals are very different from us―though we are similar in one very important way: We share the same ability to suffer and feel pain. So how in the world did some wacko come up with the idea of sticking animals in stressful, unnatural conditions, forcing them to be sick, and then cutting up their bodies to try to maybe, possibly, somewhere down the line help people?! It makes no sense―no sense at all!
