I'm planning a wedding, and I have to choose a selection of wines?!

Question:

I'm planning a wedding, and I have to choose a selection of wines?

I want to choose some red, white and rose wine. Does anyone have any tips?

Answers:
Your caterer should be able to advise you, otherwise go to a good wine store, a store that specializes in wines, they can also tell you how much you need, and if you have un-opened bottles you might be able to return them.

If it comes in a box, it probably rocks!

I only drink white wine but you could go to any liquir store and ask them and they will tell you what is a good wine and prices's also you could also try going to a wine tasting

pino grigio...for a white wine...goes fabulous w/salads and chicken dishes...and light and crispy..
for red...merlot is smooth and goes well with pasta...so does a cabernet sauvignon...it is heavier than merlot though
and for a rose wine....i am not too fond of rose wines...but a white zinfandel...is so so..

oh also a nice good charddonay from robert mondavi is good for the price. it is not cheap and it is not expensive but it is tasty.

Hi, first find out what they wish to spend on wine. The last wedding we did was 120 people. They had 30 bottles of house wine Shadowridge Merlot, Chardonnay and only a couple bottles of Rose. They also had a running bar tab. A mid range choice may be J Lohr Merlot, Chard, etc..The General rule is find their price range you should have between two, probably three bottles per table of eight. Find the cost to you of the wine and double it. That is if you are doing this as a business. Good luck!

Don't forget to save some of your wine budget for a champagne toast at the beginning of the reception.

The name brings cringes but seriously - Charles Shaw can have some good wines.

They get the 'bottom of the barrels' from all the local wineries. Sometimes they get $100 a bottle wines. Sometimes they get $2 a bottle wines.
Its kind of a hit and miss, but Ive been pretty lucky.

One bottle of Charles Shaw is about $2!

you first need to determine if you have any restrictions from either your caterer or the place where the reception is happening. My brother's wedding was limited to the country clubs wine selection. my friend on the other hand could bring their own wine.

that said i would probably go with a King Estate pinot gris from Oregon or Cambria Katherine's Chardonnay.

for the red probably a nice merlot or pinot noir. You want them to be as food friendly as possible. right now I am liking Silverado Merlot and Cambria Julia's Pinot Noir. J. Lohr Seven Oaks Cab Sauv is another good choice for a red.

You probably do not need a rose (i am assuming you mean white zin here). Unless you absolutely want it. go with Beringer White Zin, the most popular one in the country. Personally I don't like the stuff and would not serve it at my wedding.

You should probably do some bubbly for the toast. Mumm Cuvee M is very nice and very popular here in Napa.
